Description
Vintage Hubley Elephant Coin Bank Vibrant Paint no Rust or DentsThis fabulous cast iron tusked elephant coin bank with a howdah strapped on its back was made by Hubley in the 1930's.
We know it’s a Hubley because the flat screw (not a modern Phillips) holding the two cast iron pieces together is on the left side middle of the body.
This bank is in excellent condition with no damage to the metal surface--no cracks, no dents, no missing pieces, etc. The paint is all original on it and worn down just enough to give it the character one would expect on a 100-year-old bank.
The color decoration on the howdah is vibrant and much more intricate than any other elephant bank I have seen. Even the red outline around the eyes is bright and clear.
There is one quirky thing about this bank.
The slit used to put the coin in has been painted over by the original paint job making the bank inoperable. The trunk and tail mechanism work well, so this is a rather odd issue for the use as a bank.
If you are collecting these banks for their uniqueness, style and beauty, then the fact that it’s not working won’t matter.
The bank measures 8” X 5”
The bank weighs approximately 5 ½ pounds
